“You stated COVID there and I have this quite unique memory,” McEnany, now a Fox News host, reported. “I was in the Oval Place of work with Dr. Anthony Fauci in the Problem Area with him. I mean, this man designed you imagine like, your days were numbered, all of our times had been numbered, all 323 million of us, you know?
“But then I go to Florida. I achieved you on a tarmac. And you ended up declaring some fairly bullish things about opening the condition. I was a little bit taken aback simply because it was these kinds of a contrast to sort of the groupthink I was hearing there in Washington. But you earned the ire of the remaining on your COVID response. Now you are finding attacked from the ideal there. There have been a variety of responses to COVID. Why was yours the right 1?”
DeSantis answered that his state became “the focal place for freedom” and bragged that through May and June 2020 in the state’s panhandle, “it was like COVID didn’t even exist.”
“There’s no question about that,” McEnany replied. “I arrived to Florida a lot on the weekends. Individuals never know that. I remaining the swamp and it was very joyful to be in Florida. I went to eating places, I drove the highways. Matters ended up open.”
McEnany’s remarks had been construed by Mediaite as a veiled dig at ex-President Donald Trump, her former boss who insulted her not long ago and has a sizable polling lead over DeSantis in the 2024 presidential race. Trump has criticized DeSantis’ response to the pandemic, expressing that even former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo managed it greater.
