A sixth Memphis Police Department officer was fired on Friday for his purpose in the brutal beating and death of Tyre Nichols, the 29-yr-aged Black gentleman who died in January a few times following a website traffic end.
The officer, Preston Hemphill, was positioned on leave at the get started of the department’s investigation. MPD announced his termination Friday, approximately a month after Nichols was crushed. Hemphill has not been charged with a criminal offense.
Calls for Hemphill’s dismissal grew following Memphis introduced about an hour of body digicam and surveillance footage of officers beating, kicking, pepper spraying and employing a Taser on Nichols.

According to lawyer Lee Gerald, Hemphill’s body digital camera was introduced exhibiting officers’ preliminary encounter with Nichols, in which at minimum 3 officers approached his vehicle at a targeted traffic light, yelling expletives whilst forcing him out of the automobile and onto the ground.

On Jan. 20, the division fired five other officers for their roles in Nichols’ beating loss of life. A week afterwards, people officers, who are all Black, were indicted on costs that include next-diploma murder.
Previously this week, three workers with the Memphis Fireplace Department ended up terminated from the section similar to Nichols’ demise.
Hemphill is the ninth Town of Memphis staff fired in relation to Nichols’ demise.
